Who Are You?
Founded in 2005, Three Melons is a game studio based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We develop 2D or 3D web-based games either singleplayer or multiplayer for advertisers, media companies and game publishers. Our internations client roster includes Lego, Coca-Cola, Audi, MTV Networks, Discovery Networks and FOX.
What Games Are You Working On?
We are always working on about 5 to 8 projects simultaneously. At this moment we are working on games for Lego, MTV, VH1, Disney and FOX, and we're at the demo stage for some very interesting original IP we are creating.
What's the production plan?
Constant training on game development in general. Always raising the bar in our quality and creativity. Innovative gameplay as the standard. We're also investing heavily in our own technology:
- Camarero: a Multiplayer Server.
- Daiquiri: a Multiplatform 3D Engine for Flash, Silverlight and XNA.
- Barman: IDE for Daiquiri Based Games.
We are also working on our own cool IP and are looking at Web MMOs too.
How Is Your Toolchain Put Together
Our secret weapon is the great team of professionals that conform Three Melons, all extreme lovers of videogames. We are fans of high quality and innovation in each single area of production no matter what tools we use. To create our games we are currently using Unity, Flash, Silverlight, XNA, 3D Studio Max, Maya, Photoshop, other 3D engines, and some custom tools we've built for smoother and faster production.
Always working with an agile approach using Scrum Methodology.
What Obstacles Did You Run Into?
Not many really, the assets integration pipeline is really great. For Tennis Stars Cup, every aspect of the game that we wanted to make was readily possible with Unity. Once we figured out how, we spent the rest of the time improving it. Missing features like the alpha channel in video playback or the lack of inverse reproduction of animations could be worked around easily.
Which Was the Best Part of The Unity Experience?
Ease of use and ease of multiplatform and web deployment while still being extremely powerful. The ability to code in a known scripting language such as Javascript proved valuable to the designers coding the GUI behaviors while C# with its power and simplicity was the best bride for gameplay coders.
Great compression for the Web.
Seamless multiplayer support, the NAT Punch-Through feature is great!!!
