Unity – Made By You

HISTORY

Before there was a company, there was the dream - to make the games that we grew up playing. To create a 3D system capable of supporting the next generation of games.

Early days

Joe and Nicholas met on a developer mailing list. After a week, Joe suggested they join forces. This officially started the Unity Engine. An engine that was made to support more than a single type of game.

David Helgason joined the project and the development speed picked up. As we were spending all our time on Unity, Joe moved from France to Copenhagen where OverTheEdge has its main base of operations.

A year was spent in a dark, moist basement flat - with 3 people sharing 2 beds, as one of us was always working anyways.

GooBall

After two and a half years, it was time to put our ideas to the test - GooBall was made. We moved out of the basement and into nice offices. 4 guys, 6 months and an untold number of pizzas later, GooBall was done.

In March 2005 GooBall was published by the famous Mac publisher Ambrosia Software. A game that looked way ahead of its time, made at a fraction of the cost of other titles.

Heck, we thought, anybody could do this...

Enter Unity

We got 4 more people on the team and spent 6 months cleaning up Unity, making it the best possible tool for game development.

The rest, as they say, is history in the making....
