Students enrolled in an accredited educational institution of legal age to consent to the collection and processing of their personal information (e.g., age 13 in the US, 16 in the EU) are eligible for the Unity Student plan. If you are an educator or academic institution interested in using Unity at school, sign up for the Unity Education Grant License or contact a regional reseller for academic discounts.
How do I pay for my subscription?
The following payment methods are available:
On what day is my monthly payment due?
The date that you sign up for your subscription will be the same date each month for when your payment is due. For example, if you begin your subscription on the 15th of the month, you’ll be charged for subsequent months on the 15th.
If you have multiple subscriptions you will be charged for them on the same billing date.
Can I combine different payment plans?
No, you cannot combine different payment plans, for example, a 12 month subscription with monthly payments, and a 1 year prepaid plan.
In what countries is VAT charged on a subscription?
VAT is applicable to all EU countries. If you move from the U.S. to a EU member state, once you update your billing information Unity will add VAT to your monthly payments. You must provide an EU VAT number to avoid the VAT charge on your subscription payments. If you have not provided a EU VAT number and wish to provide one now, you will need to add your EU VAT number to your billing details. We will not refund the VAT charges for the previous months that the VAT number was absent.

Each EDUCATIONAL Unity license allows a single person to use Unity on one operating system that they have exclusive use of.
Can I activate two different versions of Unity on the same machine?
Yes you can. You will need to install the two versions in different directories on your machine to avoid the installer overwriting.
How can I release the license from the machine I am using?
For perpetual licenses and subscriptions purchased before June 28, 2016:
You can return activations via your web store account. (this will only work with 4.5 editor activations and later).
- Go here: https://store.unity3d.com/account/licenses
- Add your serial number if it is not already added to the account.
- Click “Activations” to the right of the serial number.
- Click “Disable all Activations”.
Unfortunately you cannot return single activations this only resets them.
Unity 4 and 5 users, and all new subscribers can return their licenses/seats within the Editor:
- Open Unity 4 or Unity 5.
- Click "Help" (“File” on Mac).
- Click "Manage License..."
- Click "Return License".
This must be done prior to reformatting or a hardware change. You must also have an uninterrupted connection to the license server. This does not tend to be the case when behind a proxy or being without internet connection.
How do I find the serial number to activate my subscription?
Serial numbers let the Unity Editor know what level of access to give each user. This is why it is required as part of the activation process. Personal Edition users do not need a serial number to activate - they have a different option to select during the activation process.
If your serial number is not found in your purchasing email, please go see this support page and follow the steps.
How do I access the consoles?
All console platforms are included in the bundled tiers. However, you will have to apply for developer status and credentials with the individual console manufacturers before gaining access to the tools.
What is the “Made with Unity” splash screen?
The Made with Unity splash screen can be customized with your own (blurred) background image and your company logo in addition to the Unity logo. Plus and Pro subscribers always have the option to turn off the splash screen completely if they don’t want to use it.

Our primary payment gateway is WorldPay, which covers most markets.
I just subscribed but I need to assign a seat. How do I do that?
To access your new subscription, you need to assign yourself a seat to get a replacement serial and reactive the Editor. If you purchased the subscription on behalf of an organization, you need to assign each user a seat before they can activate their Editor.
Assigning seats is easy and fast, this support article tells you how to do it step by step.
I’m getting the error “Operating System identification seems to have changed”?
This error is caused when the information contained in the license file no longer matches the machine it is living in. This can commonly be caused by reformating a machine and using the old license file.
Give the steps below a try, and let me know how you get on! The files may be hidden.
- Uninstall Unity
- Delete this file:
- Windows: C:ProgramData/Unity
- Mac: Library/Application Support/Unity
- Restart
- Download Unity again from our website, since your original install might be corrupt: https://unity3d.com/unity/download.
- Reinstall and test
Will my project break if I upgrade to a new version of Unity?
We always recommend that you backup any projects before upgrading them to a new version of Unity.
Can I sell or transfer ownership of my license to another person?
Licenses are now added to Organizations, rather than individual user accounts. This means that if a particular user is leaving the Organization, the license may be transferred to another user in the Organization by a Manager or Owner of the Organization. You can add extra Managers if needed, however only the Owner of the Organization will receive invoices for the license. It is therefore worth making the Owner a general account if you are working within a larger Company.
